How easy is it to change arear wheel oil seal on a frontera?

To be honest with you unlike the other answers, changing the seal is no big deal.

Remove the rear wheel, brake assembly and wheel hub. No special tools are required. Then using a small flat head screw driver hammer the seal about mid way from its edges. This will destroy the seal and allow you to remove it with a little force.

Once the seal is out inspect the running surface on the drive shaft, if there is any damage to the drive shaft (Scratch marks, groves etc) then you will need to replace the drive shaft.

If not then push the new seal in as far as you can by hand, then using a large flat punch hammer it in to the housing. Try to hit the seal 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 3 o'clock and then 9 o'clock to ensure it enters the housing straight.

Then its just a case of re-fitting the brakes, hubs and wheel.

My advice would be to get a Haynes manual anyway as this will help you identify the various parts.

You would need special tools. Best to take it to a decent garage. Not expensive.
