Some engines had a labyrinth seal. (VW air cooled ) which was a spiral cut in the shaft to be sealed which screwed (sorry Archimedes) the oil down cavity with a drain at the bottom which put the oil back in the crankcase.Which component does a similar job as an oil seal in an engine?
that would be a gasket or o ring
