Spark Plug Tube Seal - What harm comes from oil on plug?

My 1992 Camry is getting a tuneup today and the mechanic called and said the spark plug tube seals need to be replaced because there is oil on the spark plugs. Fine - but could someone tell what harm this does? It hasn't been burning oil or anything or running badly. I'm paying an extra $60 for this and would like a better understanding why.Spark Plug Tube Seal - What harm comes from oil on plug?
One, your mechanic is resealing the tube cheap.

If you do not do this, oil builds up in the tube causing miss fires and deteriorate the plug wire ends.Spark Plug Tube Seal - What harm comes from oil on plug?
Engine oil or dust and dirt, plus heat can produce carbon.

Carbon conducts electricity pretty well. It is sometimes used for that in motor brushes, or even spark plug cables.

Hot engine + oil or puddle splash + road dust and dirt = ignition ';juice'; shorted to the block = no spark, or weak spark in the cylinder = poor performance at best.
