Remove the pulleys and harmonic balancer with a puller %26gt; They make a tool for removing the seal%26gt; Install very careful with sealant%26gt; Ask the parts store where your getting the seal from on the correct way to install on the engine you have%26gt;How do you replace a front oil seal in a mercruiser engine?
45 had the short answer. You may need to pull the front motor mount which will require a bridge across the gunnel's and chain to support the front of the engine.
Some engines had a front seal that could only be removed from inside- these required the removal of the timing chain cover.
Shaft rotation is a concern on some dual engine installations where one engine rotates opposite of the other to reduce torque. If that is your case-you will need a different seal for that engine than the other.
Grease the lips, spring towards the oil, sealer round the outside. Check the harmonic balancer for a worn grove the old seal may have cut. If so you may fix it with a ';speedy sleeve'; which slides over the wear surface to give the new seal a new surface to ride on.
If you are this far into it, you might change the timing chain set too.
