What is the function of an oil seal???

what is the function of an oil seal in an automobile???.... also would be highly delighted to know its applications in any other mechanical field.....What is the function of an oil seal???
to keep oil where it's supposed to be

i.e. oil seals

O'rings in an engine are generally attached around the shafts entering the engine gearbox preventing oil leaking out of the gearbox. Generally if you see an oil stain on your drive it's usually an oil seal which has gone.

Head gaskets are shaped to the profile of the cylinder head permitting engine cooling and assembly of the injectors or valves.

Piston rings prevent the similar permitting petrol to combust without cross contamination with oil.

Every part of your car's moving points i.e. wheels, engine parts, brakes system etc needs lubricants or non compressable fluids to help them operateWhat is the function of an oil seal???
Oil seals ( in your motor ) keep oil in where it's supposed to be , not leaking . The wheels have the same but are grease seals. You also have seals in the rear end, transmission, and muffler bearings .
Duh, oil, and seal, what do you think those 2 words in that combination would possibly mean? In your application of these 2 words, would ';seal'; possible mean an open drain for oil? How about a fitting that oil flows through. Still not right, gee wiz, what could it possibly mean, oil and seal used together? I know, it's something used to let oil out. Why on earth would anyone want to keep oil in an engine, or a transmission?

Oil seal, it is a cork, or rubber device of some kind that is used between to mating surfaces to keep oil in the engine. I guess that you might be clueless about engines in general. Yes, there are many industrial applications for seals of many different applications. Even the plumbing in your house uses seals to keep water from getting out of them where it would not be convenient to have the water leave the pipe. There is a seal, although it is composed of wax, that seals the toilet to the drain pipe it sits on top of to keep water and human waste from getting out and covering the floor.
