I have an enormusly high oil pressure on my 99 tahoe. it blows passed the oil filter seal. why??????????

recently, i over heated the motor, fortunately i didn't roast any gaskets. i replaced the water pump, and thermostatI have an enormusly high oil pressure on my 99 tahoe. it blows passed the oil filter seal. why??????????
You could have a compression leak. Bad news...

Are you sure the pressure's high, it's the correct oil filter and it's installed correctly? Could be a defective oil filter. I'd try a new oil filter first and a compression test second.I have an enormusly high oil pressure on my 99 tahoe. it blows passed the oil filter seal. why??????????
Do you have an actual oil pressure guage on your dash that is reading high? Or have you hooked up a manual guage? If so, about the only thing that will cause abnormaly high oil pressure is that the pump relief valve is not opening correctly. If not, as mentioned above, a bad filter gasket or wrong filter could be the problem. Excessive crankcase pressure-plugged pcv valve or breathers, compression leaking past the rings, etc. may force oil past crankcase seals or other gaskets but won't cause the oil filter gasket to leak.
Ok, your pressure reliefe valve may be bad and the pressure may be high.

Second, what's the oil pressure gauge saying?

Could it be that you or somebody changed the oil and you left the old gasket on there, installed the new filter and now have a double gasket and that's why the oil is coming out.
Oil Level is Way to High! Area wasn't Clean when Filter was Installed, Cracked Seal! Incorrect Oil Filter!! Oil System needs to Be Flushed!!!

Oil to High will cause Oil to Aerate and/or Blow Out through Seals. Oil Filter Seal Can Crack when being Installed. Dirt in Oil Galleys Will Cause Excessive Pressure.
I remember reading in a car manual (Holden Camira 1982) that this can happen if a breather valve is blocked up. This valve comes out of the rocker cover at the top of the motor.

The manuel recommended to soak the valve in petrol and clean it out thoroughly. Then reinstall.

This valve on my car was just clamped inline with the breather rubber hose coming from the top of the engine and took about one minute to remove.

The breather is necessary to equalize pressure between the top and bottom sections of the motor as pistons move, and/or slight compression gasses passes rings.

Maybe could be your problem but wouldn't hurt you to check.
you blew that oil pump!!!!!
