95 jeep grand cherokee larado oil leak (not rear main seal)?

I have a 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4(ZJ) I thought it was leaking oil from the rear main seal. So the past 2 days i sat under it and took it all apart and then put it all back together. Still leaks. It is coming from about 6 inches behind where the starter is. It leaks when it has been running for about 5 minutes and then when i turn it off it pours out about half a quart then stops. Any help?

Also there is now something making a tapping noise? Could I have missed something when putting it back together? This was my first time doing it so i have no idea.95 jeep grand cherokee larado oil leak (not rear main seal)?
If this has the 5.2L V8 in it, the oil pressure sending unit is in the back by the distributor and I've seen them pour out like theres no tomorrow and it's very difficult to see, even with mirrors. Hope this helped.95 jeep grand cherokee larado oil leak (not rear main seal)?
very common for valve cover to leak on this model in the rear and will leak until valve cover emptys
If it's not the rear main seal, then it is either the valve cover gasket, intake gaskets, or oil pressure sending unit. It's coming from one of these problem areas, seeping down in between the engine block and bellhousing, and running down the inside of the bellhousing and out the bottom onto the ground. I've seen aggrevating problems like yours before. The best suggestion I can give you is to go ahead and pull the top end down or remove the engine and go ahead and take the time to reseal all the external gaskets on your engine.

By the way, replacing the rear main with the engine in can sometimes be a tricky job. If you've got the one piece type seal, they're easy to damage while putting in. If you've got the two piece rope type seal, they leak like crazy after you roll them in if the joint areas aren't offset away from the block and main bearing housing joint. Either way, they are just a bear sometimes to put in without removing the engine. So, if you decide on removing the engine, go ahead and take the time to make sure that's in right while you've got the engine out and better access to it.

Good luck with it. Oil leaks such as yours can be a pain in the @$$.
