Do i need to drop oil pan to replace crank seal on 1990 montero??

i tore the motor all the way down to the crank shaft and cant get the housing loose from motor and i wonder if the housing drops into the oil pan do i need to drop the oil pan as well...need to know it wont hold oil and i have to get it fixed.....Do i need to drop oil pan to replace crank seal on 1990 montero??
to replace the rear crank seal on this vehicle, you don't need to pull the oil pan. the trans and flywheel need to be pulled for access to the round rear crank seal. good luck, not a fun job
