I have a sidekick with a 1.6l engine as well, i may be able to help you but i will need more information.
When I seal my gun stock with mineral spirits and tongue oil, can I save and reuse my mixture?
Yes as long as you keep it in an air tight container.
I have stored it up to 3 years before my next project got under way and it was still good.
But the key is air tight container.

A paper gasket might not hold up with the oil. You should try a rubber gasket you can get one that will fit the top of the oil filter.The lip on the oil filter housing is cracked can a paper gasket fix it so the seal doesn't blow?
don't bother fixing the filter. get a new one and you'll never worry about it until its time to change your oil again. it isnt worth the trouble!
does anyone know if you can even BUY those seals on oil filters separate from a filter? im betting you cant.
No...its supposed to be a rubber o ring on a oil filter
A paper gasket won't work.
As I understand what you are saying, is the housing on the engine block is what is cracked, not the filter.
The oil is under pressure when it goes through the filter, so a paper gasket will just fall apart.
If the housing is truely cracked, maybe some JB weld or something to repair it.makeup tips

First you have to know where it is leaking from. You should not even be asking about your oil filter. But the seal for the filter in already on it when you buy a new one.
Back to the antifreeze. It can be from you watwe pump, your head gasket, or many other place like you heater core. Each is its own problem. If you don't know where it is leaking form here is how to check. If your fluid is low look on the inside of your car. If the floor is wet on the pass side it is probably your heater core. If your fluid is low and there is no puddles anywhere start the car and watch to see if there is water comming out of your water pump if so by a new one and replace it. To check to see if your head gasket is leaking check your oil. If it is milky you have a big problem. If you don't understand anything I just told you take your car to a repair shop.

ok so I went to the lube place to get my oil changed and the guy told me something along the lines of I have oil leaking... something about a gasket seal on my oil pan?? Does anyone know what he may be talking about and any idea how many of my limbs im going to have to give up to get this fixed. yes there is a gasket underneath the oil pan, just have the bolts tightened some around the pan first to see if it stops the leak, there are probably about 15 to 20 bolts that hold the oil pan on, if you don't see oil on the ground under your car where you park it all the time it's not leaking bad enough to worry about it right now.

Hmm, just guessing now. Look at or feel where the face of the oil filter will go. See if it is flat or has a groove in it where the oil filter will fit.
Most oil filters has a rubber seal on them. Otherwise, get a Haynes repair manual
