Can anyone explain about douty seals used in oil and gas pipe line pig barrels?

The Douty seal is basically an O-ring around the pig; it helps create a flexible seal within the pipeline around the Pig Barrel. It has to be a flexible seal to allow for slight imperfections in the pipe diameter, otherwise the Pig could become permanently lodged in an area with a slight imperfection in the pipe diameter.

How did I do?Can anyone explain about douty seals used in oil and gas pipe line pig barrels?
very high maint.., this guy knows his pigs....Can anyone explain about douty seals used in oil and gas pipe line pig barrels?
I don't recognize the term ';douty seals'; or ';pig barrels'; for that matter.

However you may be referring to the practice of passing a ';pig'; through a pipe or a pipeline to flush the contents through to one end at the completion of a process cycle to recover material left in the line that would otherwise be wasted. The term ';pig'; refers to a projectile that is sized to closely approximate the inside diameter of the pipe. It is launched by a blast of compressed air or other similar means. The line is then cleaned by flushing it with a cleaning agent in preparation for another process cycle.

In pipelines it may be used in a similar way to clean the lines of small amounts of material adhering to the pipe walls that pose a risk of plugging over time if left untended. The pig would be introduced to the pipeline while it continued in service and captured downstream for re-use.

Hope that helps.

Motorbike oil seals leaking for NO REASON!?

My motorbike passed an MOT last year, and then has sat in the garage all year having done only 10 miles. When I went to take it out for a new MOT, I found the front fork seals are badly leaking, which obviously weren't last year or they wouldn't have passed the test. My question: is it normal for oil seals to deteriorate without any use? Both seals are leaking just as badly. I had assumed the oil had just crept out slowly over the year (they are upside-down forks on a sports bike) but when I actually rode it, after a few miles I could see the amount of oil was quite great. Is this normal deterioration?Motorbike oil seals leaking for NO REASON!?
Seals can dry out without regular use. The petroleum inside help keep them moist.

Ride the bike more next time.Motorbike oil seals leaking for NO REASON!?
It's not unusual for them to deteriorate from non-use.

My transmission is leaking oil and I don't think it's the front pump seal?

I have a Siverado with a 4L60E transmission. The guy brought my truck to said that it is the front pump seal but I don't think that it is because of where the front pump seal is. The front pump seal is at the torque converter, correct? Well, I'm leaking transmission fluid where the harness plugs in (passenger side). In fact, there is barely any fluid getting onto the ground because all of the fluid is trapped on top of the transmission. If I wouldn't have had to change the engine harness I wouldn't even know that it is leaking. My transmission is leaking oil and I don't think it's the front pump seal?
TAILSHAFT SEALMy transmission is leaking oil and I don't think it's the front pump seal?
Then change the harness O ring in the transmission if that is indeed the location of the fluid drip. Sounds like it from your description.

If the front seal is bad, you will get a drip out of the bottom (inspection cover) or the bell housing through the little hole.

Change the filter, pan gasket and fluid while you are at it UNLESS you have very high miles on it.
If i understand u right about where it leaking the it sound to me like the T line fittings on pass side if you dont have fluid inside bell housing then its not pump seal. If it is leaking from other than where i think em me more info about where its at kmp1171@att.net

Replace the valve stem oil seals?

My 1994 Isuzu Trooper has blue smoke when it is cranked after sitting for several hours and the engine is cold. It doesn't smoke on startup when the engine is warm. There is much more smoke the longer it has sat such as over night or for a day or two. I was wondering if it could possibly be the valve stem oil seals. The engine uses very little oil (maybe half a quart every 2000 miles) and has 190,000 miles on it. It runs good other than the startup smoking problem. I was thinking that as long as the engine is warm then maybe the seals expand and seal better and when the engine cools they contract and oil gets to the cylinder at startup. Does this sound like a possible cause? I have a shop manual for this car and it looks like a pretty straight forward fix although I would probably have mechanic do the work. The book I have only explains the fix and not the symptoms of bad seals. Does my engine have the symptoms? It's a 3.2 liter V6 with dual overhead cams.Replace the valve stem oil seals?
Hey Blazer I Normaly dont give out trade secrets that took a combination of 33yr master auto tech, repair shop owner, but im going to let you in on one.

all the previous awnsers are good sound advice, but i think you may have a combination of problems, probably worn seals, and some wear on the int. valve guides...... BUT there may be a cheap solution to your problem ,which could solve 80% of your problem, here it is

On dual overhead cam engines, well all engines ,over time ,high mileage the oil return holes in head become plugged, remove valve covers and verify,if you use penz,or quaker state a pariffin base oil you will Know this is the prob.

Take a shop vac and a wire and unplug oil return holes ,should be 2 on each head, being careful not to let debri fall to pan ,do NOT disturb any more than nessary reinstall valve covers ,you can do this your self, if this cheap fix dosent work, than follow prev. advice Post IF THIS SOLVES your prob.Replace the valve stem oil seals?
You have really just answered your own ?.Its called wear and tear items. In your owners manual it should give you a scheduled maintenance for your ride or go to your local Isuzu dealership and will steer you in right direction. They will let you know what needs to be changed and replaced with a SUV with high miles.Sometimes its probably better and cheaper at a local Joe garage. Also keep in mind who is certified and not.
With 200,000 miles, any money spent on this eng other than a total rebuild is wasted. Drive it until it wont pass smog check any longer and then rebuild the eng or trade it in.
Sounds like the right cause.
The ohc engines are more difficult to change out the seals normally but it sounds like the reason for the smoke on start-up.

Im workin on 1996 dodge ram 4x4 and im changin the front oil seals on the axle and i got it all tore apart and

i just have to get the oil seals out and back in and i dont no if i have to go from the out side of the axle useing a slide hammer or if i have to take the ring gear out and go from the inside of the houseingIm workin on 1996 dodge ram 4x4 and im changin the front oil seals on the axle and i got it all tore apart and
I have done these before. ok you have to take the ring gear out so you can drive both side seals in from the out side. You will need a long punch or bar to get the passanger side seal out. to put them in the drivers side you can just tap in but the passanger side you need a specal tool to push the seal in. I dont know if you can rent one from a auto parts store. You have to use that tool there is no other way to do it, I have my own. seal replacment is a pain on those trucks.

Is it true that you shouldn't put synthetic oil in older cars because the seals in the engine can't handle it?

I have heard you shouldn't put synthetic in older engines because it will hurt the seals, the seals can't handle the thinner oil, and you will develop leaks.

IS this true?Is it true that you shouldn't put synthetic oil in older cars because the seals in the engine can't handle it?
No it's not true.. It's BS, a myth, an old wives tell.

Syn. oil vs. std. oil of the same weight is the same thickness.. A 10W30 in syn, is the same thickness as a 10W30 in reg. oil.

Syn. oil will not hurt seals, or cause leaks.

If fact it's the other way around.. A reg oil will break down and thin out with heat.. Syn oil will not.. It takes a much higher temp to break the syn oil down.Is it true that you shouldn't put synthetic oil in older cars because the seals in the engine can't handle it?
I agree, it is an old wives tale. Another myth is that you cannot mix syn. and conventional oils. If that were true we wouldn't have Durablend or Syntec Blends. Report Abuse

a toyota w/ 58000 miles is barely broken in- do it, man ! youll get 2,000,000,000,000 more miles out of it
well,I am running with synthetic with no problems,at 180,000 clicks. My oil pressure is lower due to the thinner oil,but seems to be ok otherwise
Oh, Synthetic oil is ';thinner';? What crap!!

Syn oil comes in a variety of viscosities, from 5 through 40 (at least).

Consult your operators manual and see if it is OK to use it. My guess is that it is OK%26lt; but check first.
yes running syn. oil is great but if you have a small oil leak it will make the oil leaks bigger because of the lube property's of the oil. it wont hurt the seals they just leak more. i use the oil in my car.it has over 145000 miles . you just need to keep on top of the oil leaks.
the car is already broken in to run an the thicker oil. The synthetic is too thin. you just burn it out the tail pipe.

What has a mild taste for sealing in ';juices'; in chicken: batter, olive, canola, or peanut oil?

we skin our own chickens and need a ';paste'; to seal the juices in and we want a sealant that is mild so we can sprinkle spices or put a marinate on it without tasting the sealant. what is the most mild: batter, olive, canola, or peanut oil. What has a mild taste for sealing in ';juices'; in chicken: batter, olive, canola, or peanut oil?
the best way too seal in ur juices is to put ur chicken in a brine which is basically you soak it in a mixture of salt and water with additional flavorings optional.

it ensures its moist and seals it in.

i am not sure of the exact ratios of salt and water but u can always google itWhat has a mild taste for sealing in ';juices'; in chicken: batter, olive, canola, or peanut oil?
High heat and very little oil will give you no flavor and sealed in juices. When the skin Or outside of the chicken is seered the juices remain in the meat. Of the things you listed ,peanut oil has the highest tempeture rating(smoke point). The hotter the pan the faster the seer ,the mor juicy the meat.
I've heard over and over to use peanut oil when cooking chicken. So, I do. It always tastes better. Maybe it's in my head??
Dry your chicken to remove any excess moisture before dredging it in flour seasoned with the spices/seasonings of your choice. Then you can cook it in clarified butter or any type of oil. No paste or batter is necessary.
In India we marinate with yogurt. I am not sure if this would freeze well.

Here is info on how to marinate chicken the Indian way

I have a 2001 saturn 1.9 DOHC i recently noticed that it is going through much more oil than it should (there is no leak) also it was idleing really high so i decided to clean out the throtle body to see if it would fix the idle problem and it did. Anyways when i cleaned it it had oil in it!!! so my question is Could my rings be fried (there is no smoke or burning oil smell) or could i just have a gasket seal that needs replace or posibly my valve stem gaskets??? i know a little about cars just not enough to figure this out alone please helpMechanic help. Oil in throttle body... fried rings or gasket seal?
sounds like a lot of blowby in the engine bad rings but first check the pcv valve to make sure it is good if not replace it. but these engines are bad about having a lot of blowbyMechanic help. Oil in throttle body... fried rings or gasket seal?
probably rings are worn, run a thicker oil like 20/50 or some viscosity thickener like STP oil treatment.
The best bet is to do a compression check on your cylinders. That will tell you a lot of what your engine's problem is.

Took my 96 Accord in because of an oil leak. I was told that the cam seal and crank seal were leaking and?

would need to be replaced. I was also told that the timing belts might need to be replaced. When I went to pick up my car I was told that they did need to replace the timing belts. They saved the old belts like I asked and they look almost brand new. Anyway I pulled out my credit card and was told that the machine was down and they could only take cash. I assume this was so I could not put a stop payment on the card when I realized they messed up my car. I needed my car so I ended up coming back with cash the next day. I picked up the car and it was shaking, making noise, had a lot less power and it smelled like something was burning in the engine. I brought it back and the guy looked at it, checked the timing, drove it around the block and said he didn't notice anything wrong. He said to leave it and he would check it out more thoroughly. I picked it up a couple days later and it's still the same. So basically I'm out $450 and stuck with a crappy running car. What should I do??Took my 96 Accord in because of an oil leak. I was told that the cam seal and crank seal were leaking and?
Make sure you have documentation of all transactions with the first mechanic.

Go to another mechanic and get it checked. Have him write out the problem. If the problem is from the first mechanic, then go to other mechanic with the findings. If he refuses to fix it then sue him in small claims.Took my 96 Accord in because of an oil leak. I was told that the cam seal and crank seal were leaking and?
They have one of your timing belts one cog off.....your belts need to be serviced every 40k to 50k miles. most people dont do this, they wait for their belts to fail....Im not taking ';their side'; BUT he probably did you a favor by replacing them, he just made a mistake, probably doesnt want his boss to know. i would get a second and third opinion...
Go back and have the guy drive with you so you can point out what is wrong. If he refuses to fix anything else there's really not much you can do. Maybe ask your family or friends where a trustworthy and reliable auto shop is located. A lot of those places scam people out of a lot of money. O and if he tries to say you need something else fixed, take it to another shop and get a second opinion.
take to another mechanic get fixed or an estimate with exactly whats wrong in writing if it was caused by they.re actions confront and ask for reimbursment if they refuse see judge joe brown

What seals in the ';juices'; of a skinned whole chicken better: oil pasted on the chicken or brine the chicken

we raise our own chickens and want to seal in those juices but we need to know the best way. most people would say brine the chicken. i called my butcher and he said to brine them for three days. what is the best solution for brineing the chickens we have about 65 birds. or would pasteing them with some type of oil work better. we grill out alot. we would be vaccum sealing and freezing the rest. we need something that seals the juices, great cooking, and will freeze well. any ideas? What seals in the ';juices'; of a skinned whole chicken better: oil pasted on the chicken or brine the chicken
First thing, when freezing anything ';space'; is the enemy, space meaning air, ';whole'; intact birds is to much air (freezer burn'; assumeing you're freezing them whole. Cut them in half, put them in a zip top bag and seal to the final corner and suck the air out, either with your mouth or a straw and close it up, a vac sealer works best. Don't brine or add anything, strange things happen when you brine and thaw. Brining even though it takes awhile, should be used for something you're cooking right away, the infusion of the brine is part of the science of molecules and moisture, freezing upsets that action.

(I disagree with your butchers call.)

Hope this helps. What seals in the ';juices'; of a skinned whole chicken better: oil pasted on the chicken or brine the chicken
    Brining works better than oil.

I like this brine recipe, and it can be adapted to chicken. I'd cut back on the brining solution ingredients and water to suit the weight of the chicken(s) you have.

    ROASTED BRINED TURKEY

1 (14 to 16 pound) frozen young turkey

    For the brine:

    1 cup kosher salt

    1/2 cup light brown sugar

    1 gallon vegetable stock

    1 tablespoon black peppercorns

    1/2 tablespoon allspice berries

    1/2 tablespoon candied ginger

    1 gallon iced water

    For the aromatics:

    1 red apple, sliced

    1/2 onion, sliced

    1 cinnamon stick

    1 cup water

    4 sprigs rosemary

    6 leaves sage

    Canola oil

Combine all brine ingredients, except ice water, in a stockpot, and bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve solids, then remove from heat, cool to room temperature, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.

Early on the day of cooking, (or late the night before) combine the brine and ice water in a clean 5-gallon bucket. Place thawed turkey breast side down in brine, cover, and refrigerate or set in cool area (like a basement) for 6 hours. Turn turkey over once, half way through brining.

A few minutes before roasting, heat oven to 500 degrees. Combine the apple, onion, cinnamon stick, and cup of water in a microwave safe dish and microwave on high for 5 minutes.

Remove bird from brine and rinse inside and out with cold water. Discard brine.

Place bird on roasting rack inside wide, low pan and pat dry with paper towels. Add steeped aromatics to cavity along with rosemary and sage. Tuck back wings and coat whole bird liberally with canola (or other neutral) oil.

Roast on lowest level of the oven at 500 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cover breast with double layer of aluminum foil, insert probe thermometer into thickest part of the breast and return to oven, reducing temperature to 350 degrees F. Set thermometer alarm (if available) to 161 degrees. A 14 to 16 pound bird should require a total of 2 to 2 1/2 hours of roasting. Let turkey rest, loosely covered for 15 minutes before carving.

    --Alton Brown, Food Network
Brining %26amp; marinating will help with having a tasty chicken, but means nothing is the bird is overcooked. the general rule of thumb is finished cooking temp is 165 for 10 seconds.

Searing will improve flavor as well, but the difference in lost juices is minimal.

When grilling, use tongs vs. a fork.

Remember what you feed your chickens will ultimatley determine its flavor as well.
I like to freeze my chicken in the marinade, then when it defrosts it's ready to grill and it helps eliminate freezer burn... You can make your own marinade, or use bottled italian dressing...

Can I use an oil additive to stop my rear main seal leak?

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with a 5.2 liter V8. It has 167,000 miles on it. My rear main seal is leaking a little. No oil had touched the drive way but you can see that oil is slowly but surely leaking out around the seal. I can either get it repaired this week or try Bars leak rear main seal repair. I dont mind going the cheap route but I dont want to end up with more problems than I already have. Will this formula really work to stop my leak? Can I use an oil additive to stop my rear main seal leak?
It may slow it down. The only true fix is to replace the seal. Can I use an oil additive to stop my rear main seal leak?
For awhile it might. These products often work by softening the seal allowing it to maintain better contact with the rear main bearing. At best this is a temporary fix.
No, It might help alittle but what other problems might it cause to .
I've used it in tens of motors without any problems later. It seems to be one of those myths that it doesn't work judging by the answers here. The last time someone asked that same question all the internet mechanics said that it hardens the seals later.A good product is called Main-Sta.It dried up all the seals in my 1993 Grand Cherokee 5.2L.That was 10 years ago and 100,000 miles later still no leaks.
    no, it';s a waist of money,have it replaced .
Most ';stop leak'; products are meant as a temporary fix at best. They are designed to allow you to drive the vehicle for a short period of time until you can get it fixed properly. If you are financially able and willing to have the vehicle's leak repaired this week, I'd skip the additives and just have it fixed asap. Good luck!
Nope, They haven't figured out how to get a mechanic in the can yet. Do not add the stop leak, it will do more harm than good, it will soften the seal chemically and cause it to expand. It also degrades the seal material. It will only cause premature failure of the seal. Plus it will react on all the engine oil seals causing the valve guide seals , front crankshaft seal and others to start leaking prematurely.

If it's not dripping the seal is probably OK, There is an amount of ';normal'; weepage from any rotating shaft seal. If a shop is trying to sell you the rear main job, get another opinion. Maybe things were slow, Christmas is coming the guy needs the money, His kids need shoes. He's thinking he needs it more than you, you're thinking different.

Oil stop leak is a waste of money and if it's really leaking you will still be contaminating the ground as you drive. You'll have to get it done. Trans has to come out.

5W20, NON SYNTHETIC. Weight will vary by your area/climate, owners manual states weight by zone.

Some people swear by synthetic, Mazda has never tested synthetic in the Wankel rotary and has used full oil in all their cars. Quaker State actually says in their website their full synthetic is recommended for any and every engine, EXCEPT the Wankel rotary...

Synthetic was a matter of choice. In a car that burns oil, you dont want to use an oil that has a higher viscosity and resists thermal breakdown... it has to break down, its using it!

I had my oil changed a week ago, and then 5 days later after a 600 mile drive my transmission went out completely, and I need to have that replaced and they said that my axle seal was broken. The most important thing to remember here is there are two things that can fry your engine in a heartbeat, lack of oil and excess heat. Keep your oil in good shape and keep your engine running within normal operating temp and you should get well over 200,000 miles out of it.

The short and sweet of it, get it to the mechanic and let them have a look. Chances are, it will be the oil pressure sending unit. Less than $100 and you'll be back on the road.I have a 95 Camaro and i am loosing oil pressure it's at a 1/4 or less is it my oil pump or rear main seal?
Is your question the oil pressure on my guage sitting at 1/4 of the guage range or is it sitting at 1/4 of what it used to display? If you are worried about oil pressure and you should be, take out the oil pressure sensor and screw in an actual shop guage and start motor up and measure what the motor is actually producing at idle and at rev. These motors should not produce anymore than 20 psi at idle and 67-70 psi at rev. If the pressure is too low, you can have several problems. Is there enough oil in the motor, filter plugged? If these are okay, I would suspect motor bearing problems/damage or an oil pump that cannot produce enough pressure to push through. You might just have a bad sensor or guage too so that's why you have to be sure to chase the right problem. Good luck.I have a 95 Camaro and i am loosing oil pressure it's at a 1/4 or less is it my oil pump or rear main seal?
Possibly Oil Pump, but check oil presure releif valfe and sory but is most likly crankshaf, mane jernal ore big end.
if its not leaking any out on the ground id check the oil sending unit, these things go bad a lot ,and cause low oil pressure readings, but it don't always mean the car isn't getting any oil, believe me you,d know it if it wasn't getting any, id try changing that first, chances are the unit is bad and just giving false readings on it,if that doesn't help it then id be concerned about it,but try changing that ,it may re-store the oil pressure to where it should be ,good luck hope this helps.
valve cover gaskets are a problem on most chevys
check under the car to see where the oil spots (if any) are forming. I'd say the pump isn't likely since it's internal and everything is mechanically driven.
Check to see if you are low on oil. If you are how ong since you checked it? I have an oil pan gasket leak and that causes my level to go down which causes low pressure

If you are full of oil. the problem is likely you oil pump

Major oil leak from cv/gear box/diff passenger side seal?

well you have a front wheele drive so there is no front or rear diff thats your trany the shaft is a trans axle on your passenger side the cv is on the driver side the box is the hub there is a few seals on it there is 1 where the 2 pices of the hub go togeather there is 1 where the trans axle bolts to the hub there is 1 on the outside (behind where tire bolts to the studs) thats about all i can think of try washing it with a good degreaser and refill it with 80/90W gear oil there should be a fill plug on the back of the hub above or below where the trans axle goes to it if its the gasket where the 2 pices of the hub go togeather youll have to unbolt the trans axle then un bolt the hub pices the you can clean it real good and use some rtv to reseal it with if its the outer hub seal the you take the tyire off and there will be a big nutt in the middle of the tire studs take it out and the seal will be right there it looks like a metal ring with a ring of rubber on the in side of it you pull it out you can use a seal remover that you can rent at autozone or use a big wreach just make sure you dont scar the inside meatle of the hub and all so make sure you use a seal installer tool that you can all so rent at autozone to make sure that the new seal goes in straght if its the in side hub seal then take the tire off un bolt the trans axle from the hub and there is a seal just like i had talked about for the outer seal and just fallow the same steps hope to have help you all so you can look up a lot of trouble shooting and repair guids on autozone .com there all free you just sign up if ya need any thing elese then let me know

95 jeep grand cherokee larado oil leak (not rear main seal)?

I have a 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4(ZJ) I thought it was leaking oil from the rear main seal. So the past 2 days i sat under it and took it all apart and then put it all back together. Still leaks. It is coming from about 6 inches behind where the starter is. It leaks when it has been running for about 5 minutes and then when i turn it off it pours out about half a quart then stops. Any help?

Also there is now something making a tapping noise? Could I have missed something when putting it back together? This was my first time doing it so i have no idea.95 jeep grand cherokee larado oil leak (not rear main seal)?
If this has the 5.2L V8 in it, the oil pressure sending unit is in the back by the distributor and I've seen them pour out like theres no tomorrow and it's very difficult to see, even with mirrors. Hope this helped.95 jeep grand cherokee larado oil leak (not rear main seal)?
very common for valve cover to leak on this model in the rear and will leak until valve cover emptys
If it's not the rear main seal, then it is either the valve cover gasket, intake gaskets, or oil pressure sending unit. It's coming from one of these problem areas, seeping down in between the engine block and bellhousing, and running down the inside of the bellhousing and out the bottom onto the ground. I've seen aggrevating problems like yours before. The best suggestion I can give you is to go ahead and pull the top end down or remove the engine and go ahead and take the time to reseal all the external gaskets on your engine.

By the way, replacing the rear main with the engine in can sometimes be a tricky job. If you've got the one piece type seal, they're easy to damage while putting in. If you've got the two piece rope type seal, they leak like crazy after you roll them in if the joint areas aren't offset away from the block and main bearing housing joint. Either way, they are just a bear sometimes to put in without removing the engine. So, if you decide on removing the engine, go ahead and take the time to make sure that's in right while you've got the engine out and better access to it.

Good luck with it. Oil leaks such as yours can be a pain in the @$$.

  • If someone breaks the seal on a bottle of virgin olive oil, did they just bust its hymen?

And how many times can you use the bottle before it becomes a bottle of whore olive oil?

I just broke my YA question 'cherry'!

(Bet you wished I hadn't...)If someone breaks the seal on a bottle of virgin olive oil, did they just bust its hymen?
**shakes head** When you ';go all the way'; wanderer....you GO ALL THE WAY!! Gotta love ya for it. :D

Now.....to answer your question. (If the above pun didn't already) ;)

Remember, olive oil is precious. Never ';use'; it. ';Embrace'; its aroma, its texture, its taste. Savor the taste with your delicate tongue and feel the warmth as it slides down your throat. Once you've done this, it is impossible to stay away from this delicacy you've unleashed. You must have it!! You must have it all!! You will never share this delicious delectable treasure with anyone. It is yours...all yours. You find the finest loaves to dip into this pool of lusciousness. You coat each bite in this nectar of the Gods! You can't get enough so you keep pouring and pouring and pouring as you pour your heart out to this amazingly ';pure'; delight. And then... you look up and discover... she's gone. You savor that taste until it soon starts to fade into a distant memory. You then ';bottle'; up your feelings and toss them in the trash along with your memories of that moment. For then you move on... because in the pantry... lies another waiting to be experienced. If someone breaks the seal on a bottle of virgin olive oil, did they just bust its hymen?
Your bottle would only become a whore if you was to sell the services of her succulent oils to others, and to do so would make you her pimp. If you savour her and she remains loyal to you then she is your lover and true and honset to the last. And shame on you if you get another after her passing! Report Abuse

    Thats just funny
Well it's sure not virgin anymore now, is it?
lmao thats funny,,,,i would say by half way down, lol
    oh your god!

dude that was a total waste of five points man!

I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee would the rear main seals be causing me to burn off oil threw the exhaust?

I was told it could be that the or the piston ring seals that could be bad. i was under the car putting on a new oxygen sensor and seen oil near the oil pan and the engine any help would be nice thanks.I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee would the rear main seals be causing me to burn off oil threw the exhaust?
Oil outside the engine yes. Oil through the exhaust no, that would be rings, valves, blown gasket or cracked head. BTW, our 99 Jeep is a leaky beast, seems to be their nature.

Did my oil change mess up my axle seal?

I had my oil changed a week ago, and then 5 days later after a 600 mile drive my transmission went out completely, and I need to have that replaced and they said that my axle seal was broken. I learned that most of the time an axle seal is broken it is not because of the driver, but because of a mechanic, or assembly line worker. I want to know if places that change your oil mess with the axle seal, because I am about to lose my mind if it is their fault.Did my oil change mess up my axle seal?
no changing the oil will not have anything to do with a wheel or axle seal going out and seals do i repeat do go bad with out any help from tampering so i doubt very very much that the service job had anything at all to do with itDid my oil change mess up my axle seal?
its not the mechanic most of the time its the operator not saying its your fault but hey if the shoe fits.
No shana, this is what we call a coincidence

    your thinking is correct

If you have a car that comes with sealed transmission, Are you supposed to change the oil every 100000 miles?

I have a 2001 chevy malibu and it has 94000 miles on it. I know that a tune-up and transmission oil change must be done after the 100000 in more of the american cars.If you have a car that comes with sealed transmission, Are you supposed to change the oil every 100000 miles?
Check you owners manuel for recommended service intervals. You may think your tranny is seal but you can still have the level checked on this and you can still service it. It will be kinda pricy because the filter kit is expensive on this cars. NOTE: Ask questions and be sure they can srvice it. Some quick lube shops wont even touch your car because they are not familiar with the trans so make sure they check it to see if it is something they can do. Of coarse I already know LOL so anyquestions feel free to ask.If you have a car that comes with sealed transmission, Are you supposed to change the oil every 100000 miles?
You simply must do it. If not - it is very dangerous not only for you but to all people around you.
You can change it on a sealed.... these sealed transmissions are a load of crap.... they need servicing or you'll be ending up buying a new one (which is more then likely what they want)... at 94,000 miles... some would treat it as a black box.... leave it till it goes because thats too long of a run on the original fluid, and sometimes after changine it, the transmission starts acting up.
IF it has never been changed, I would not recommend changing it now. It should have been done at about 30,000 mile intervals. which means, 3 times by now? Often, your transmission has become used to the old, dirty, sticky fluid and if you put new, clean fluid in, it will remove all the build up and deposits that MAY be keeping your trans working as is. If anything, just drain what you can without flushing, and add enough new fluid to hit the fill line.
you can't, on a sealed tranny!
no a lot of newr vehicles use a synthetic type of oil and should not be changed un less there is a problem wich requires breaking th transmission case apart. to be certain on your specific model consult yor maintenance schedule in your owners manual or a gm dealer

How long is 2cycle engine oil stored in a metal sealed can good for.?

I remember Castrol TTS came in tins - that's easy 20 years ago now....

Would be probably just fine, if it was synthetic or synthetic/mineral blend and if the tin hasn't rusted (lets face it - a tin full of lube is not the easiest to rust!) or been left open long enough for water to be an issue. I wouldn't be too keen to use twenty or thirty year old lube in a modern engine even so.....

Lawn edger or other domestic 2st maybe? Old chook chaser that you don't care about?

I'd want to put the lube in a clear glass container to see any visible greeblies or contamination first at least. How long is 2cycle engine oil stored in a metal sealed can good for.?
Probably forever, but oil companies continue to improve their products (additives, etc.), so using an older can of oil may not be as good for the engine as using a new can.How long is 2cycle engine oil stored in a metal sealed can good for.?
If it's in a metal can, it must be at least 30 years old. Probably belongs in a museum, not your tank.

  • Would Steel Seal / Liquid sealants stop engine oil from leaking?

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, just recently it has started leaking engine oil - at a very fast rate. I have a puddle of oil underneath my car and I can see leakage on the engine as well. I can't pinpoint the exact location of the leak at this point.

The car has a damaged head gasket - so I added a liquid sealant to the radiator to stop the coolant from leaking into the oil chamber. This was done about 7 months ago. ...There was no leaking oil at that point.

How long do most liquid sealants last? ..And would they fix an oil leak? [[Even temporarily?]]

I have a very limited budget and would like to keep the repair costs as low as possible.

All suggestions are much appreciated :]Would Steel Seal / Liquid sealants stop engine oil from leaking?
You may have damaged things by the use of ANY sealants!!! Usually, they will clog up the radiator or the heater core. BIG MISTAKE!!! Chances are that your valve cover gaskets need to be tightened down, or that your oil pressure switch has internally broken. Power wash your engine with GUNK orange and allow it to dry. Any leaks should be obvious afterwords. Liquid sealant is almost NEVER the answer. Usually, changing to a more advanced oil is the answer, preceded by a good motor flushing. This gives the properties of the advanced oils a chance to clean and lubricate. A 2002 car is worth taking care of properly. DON'T take chances like this, it is not a 70's car!! The use of a cheaper grade of oil may even cause your oil pressure relief valve ( a part of the oil pump) to stick and create too much oil pressure. READ your manual about oil specifications!!! Before you destroy this thing! Also, read the ';dexcool-settlement.com'; web-site for a few more tips.Would Steel Seal / Liquid sealants stop engine oil from leaking?
no it will not stop an oil leak that is that bad the best thing i can tell you is to check your oil filter to see if thats leaking if its from the oil pan then change the gasket they are fairly cheap usually

Leaking small amount of oil, mechanic says it is coming from master seal, what is that??

dime size spot of oil, coming from master seal, nothing you can do about it... that is what i was told. 99 ford explorer 138k 4wd.Leaking small amount of oil, mechanic says it is coming from master seal, what is that??
master seal don't even sound right. perhaps he means the main seal...which is located at the back of the engine. and yes it can be repaired. It's just a matter of changing the seal.

On the other hand...maybe he meant master cylinder...if that's the case then it's the brakes and you have to have it fixed right away.

anything on any car can be fixed....I'd ask a different mechanic if he says it can't be fixed..Leaking small amount of oil, mechanic says it is coming from master seal, what is that??
are you talking about front or rear crankshaft seals ?

they can be fixed but it's expensive, some times auto mechanics

say that someting can't be fix or it will cost you lots of money

to scare the customer and make them sell the car to them (mechanics) and they end up buying a car very cheap and the car had something very easy and cheap to fix my recomendation is go to another shop
    $10 part , $750 labor
Probably means the rear main crankshaft seal.

When you change it, sometimes it may still leak, and some people expect it not to.

If you went to an independent shop, they won't mess with it.

If you would want the leak to stop completely all you can do is gamble and change the seal, though it might not stop
master seal eh? time to switch mechanics before he tries to replace your muffler bearings !
    agree with sterling m
the rear main seal, the most likely culprit, is the seal that surrouds the back of the crankshaft.

It can be fixed, like anything else on a car, but to replace it, the transmission will probably have to be removed, and with the labor price to fix that seal, if it's only leaking a small amount, don't worrry about it. all my cars leak a little from that seal.
This could be a rear main seal or master cylinder leak. The plastic resevoir can leave on the master cylinder but I think you should definitely get a second opinion from an ASE certified mechanic. He will tell you want the problem is and an approxiamate cost. just tell him where the leak is and let him diagnose it.
i own a repair shop, and he must be talking about the rear main seal in the engine and it can be repaired, but you either have to remove the engine,or the transmission ,to get to it,once you do get to it,there not hard to put in its the cost of getting to it,that's so expensive,,good luck,i hope this help,s.
I believe you mean main seal. You have a frant and a rear main seal these are the seals that go on the crank shaft. What doesw he mean nothing you can do about it? Replace the darn thing. but unless it gets worse it really wont hurt anything most cars begin to leak at some point anyway. I have never seen a brand of car that didn't leak. good luck
which engine ,is it front crank seal or rear main, both can be repaired, rear main is not cheap, could be intake manifold seal leaking down back of engine, this is also repairable,or valve covers

Replaced stem seals how long should it be before oil burns off exhaust as it is still smoking?

Drive the vehicle at a high RPM, (3000) preferably on the highway,(adequate air flow to prevent overheating) for at least 1 hour. You must create enough heat to burn off the oil deposits from the internal exhaust components.

禄禄禄Replaced stem seals how long should it be before oil burns off exhaust as it is still smoking?
Depending on how much oil has spilt, but it should only be a matter of minutes.

If it continues, wait for the motor to cool, spray some degreaser around and hose off.

Its possible that if it continues there is an oil leak coming from somewhere, possibly from your valve covers.Replaced stem seals how long should it be before oil burns off exhaust as it is still smoking?
As long as the seals are working should be soon.If it does not then you did something wrong.Good Luck.
only a few minutes maybe a hour of driving... if its longer than that try washing them down and if that dont get it you have a leak

The grand am is a POS if you will. I work for a pontiac dealer and all i can tell you is to get out of it asap.
if it had a v6, gm knows about the problem and there is a service bulletin for an updated seal, very common problem in all 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, and 3.5 engines

Is it allowed to take Factory-SEALED Bottles (alcohol, oil, etc) in a Carry-On Luggage ??

Unfortunately not. Which is the stupidest thing, but it's not.... unless they are 100ml (about 3.4 ounces) or smaller. But I have brought these bottles in my checked luggage without a problem. Is it allowed to take Factory-SEALED Bottles (alcohol, oil, etc) in a Carry-On Luggage ??
Not unless it's under the 3.4 oz. or 100ml limit, it is okay in your check-in luggage though, and if you purchase your items past the security checkpoint it can be carried on the plane. Is it allowed to take Factory-SEALED Bottles (alcohol, oil, etc) in a Carry-On Luggage ??
Depends where your flying. The new TSA guidelines prohibit any liquid more then 3.4oz in a carry on bag. Though you can still check the liquor into your checked bags
no,they will take it from you at security

Why did the CIA seal the documents re: which US companies were involved in the food for oil program?

Too many US corporations and fat cat contributers to the rethugs would be implicated. Why did the CIA seal the documents re: which US companies were involved in the food for oil program?
Because just as in most criminal cases, most info is kept secret untill after it is brought out in court, That, and the fact that there were several other countries involved, which means that we have to extra politically correct.

I mean, it's not like our media would turn anything they find into a freak show. But just in case, you know there is one rouge irresponsible reporter. (I am being sarcastic)Why did the CIA seal the documents re: which US companies were involved in the food for oil program?
because our politicians (both democrat %26amp; republican) are more corrupt than politicians in most third world countries!
Why do you think and your righjt about that
    could it have been... Haliburton!?!
To hide all the corruption and miss use of the program.

  • The cost of replacing oil seals on a 1998 toyota camry?

I had a dealer do these seals during my last T-Belt replacement -- and the cost for the entire job including T-Belt was between $400 - $500. That price also included replacement belts, too.The cost of replacing oil seals on a 1998 toyota camry?

Oil leak by crankshaft seal?? 03 Impala?

I recently bought a used 1 owner 2003 Chevy Impala. They said they did a 150 point inspection (the dealership) and changed the oil...Now 33 days later (after the 30 day bumper to bumper warranty expired, should still have 60 day drive train warranty) the low oil level light came on so I checked the oil and there is almost no oil in it. I immediately put oil in and called the dealership. They said they found some leaking around the seals and gaskets (crankshaft seal being one of them) but that its common in cars with this mileage (92,000). They want to do an oil consumption test where I drive 250 miles and then they check the level to see how much and how fast it is leaking oil. Any thoughts on how expensive this would be to fix and what should I be wanting them to do? I don't really know anything about cars and I dint want them to tell me its nothing and then in 5 months I'm going out of town and my engine blows....I have small kids...I cant let that happen. Any suggestions, thoughts, or advice for me would be great!Oil leak by crankshaft seal?? 03 Impala?
Sounds to me like your PCV system is stopped up.

The PCV vents the pressure in the oil system back into the intake. When it gets clogged pressure builds up in the oil system and it starts to push oil out of just about every seal there is including the crankshaft seals.

If they noticed oil coming out of all of the seals and didn't think to check the PCV they are not very competent.

You can get a PCV valve at just about any parts store. They are cheap and usually easy to replace. I am not 100% sure where it is located on your particular engine but it is most likely on top of the valve cover.Oil leak by crankshaft seal?? 03 Impala?
You should be concerned if your crankshaft was very low on only 33 days of running. A little oil consumption with that mileage is OK But yes let them do the test and you also track your oil use. It sounds like you have a bag oil leak or if you don't see any leaks then it blowing out the exhaust. Good Luck!!!
Ok the front crank seal on those always have some seepage if leak was bad enough to losse that much oil you should have seen spots the fact that the dealer wants to do a consumption test mean that 1 they r honest and 2 no leaks they found r bad enough to explain a huge oil loss. Let them run the consumption test and U run one 2 its easy top off oil to full mark on dip stcick then every 100 miles or so check oil and see if and how much you lost. And if more than a 1/2 of a qt between oil changes you r either buring it or leaking it. if need more info email me at kmp1171@att.net

99 yz 125. I am going to replace the fork seals. How much fork oil do i put in to replace the old oil.?

i have a measuring cup that has the oil ratio to gas and on the other side there is other measurments like cc maybe mm and something else.99 yz 125. I am going to replace the fork seals. How much fork oil do i put in to replace the old oil.?
That model has inverted forks (upside down).

The fork oil is measured by height, not quantity.

A shop manual is necessary to learn the proper procedures and specifications for your particular model, to bleed the forks and adjust the oil level.

    http://www.motocom.com/motorcycles/

No mechanic can do the job without a manual.

A fork oil level tool is necessary.

as old as your bike is, it probably need more than just seals,,they will probably start leaking again soon so i recommend sending your forks off for a major internal cleaning/parts replacement.

Is it normal to have a ring of oil around your fork after getting your fork seals replaced?

I just got my fork seals replaced and after I got home I looked and I could see a line of oil going around each fork from where the fork compressed, is this normal? Is there supposed to be oil that gets on the fork like that? It didn't look like alot just a little line.Is it normal to have a ring of oil around your fork after getting your fork seals replaced?
I sure there will be some residual oil that gets on the forks. Wipe it off and keep an eye on it, if it returns you might need to have the shop inspect them to make sure they didn't make a mistake. Is it normal to have a ring of oil around your fork after getting your fork seals replaced?
Do what the above post says. Some guys take the old seals out with a screwdriver which gouges the soft aluminum and then they leak forever.

Sealing new cedar deck is oil base best to use to get transparent finish ?

It depends on what you are referring to as being ';oil '; based.

If it is a stain it will have some color. If it is an oil based sealer you better check but it should be clear to a light yellow tint which will still give a transparent finish. Good choice going with oil because it will penetrate the wood much deeper.

Probably belongs in a museum, not your tank.
i agree with jims .. ive never seen a metal 2 stroke oil bottal . man that thing does deserve to go in some kind of boat shop/musem
it is good for a long time no worries

My 96 dodge caravan has an oil leak I changed the rear maim seal and the oli pan and gasket and it still leaks

I changed the rear main and the oil pan and gaskest. I still have and oil leak and don't know were it is coming form but I have to add oil every 2 days. It appears to be coming form between were the engine and tarnsmsionMy 96 dodge caravan has an oil leak I changed the rear maim seal and the oli pan and gasket and it still leaks
the valve cover gasket will just pour out oil that can be getting past the exhaust system and therefore you willl not get the tell tale smoke also you could have a crack.....if you replace the valve cover gasket be sure to use red or blue silicone more likely its the oil pan thats bent and you need to use red silicone plus the gasket and let it fully dry see if the pan sits flat on a flt surface (upside down that is) also use an air hose and see if there are any cracks in it...since the rear main was replaced its prolly an oil pan that met a curb......there is still a leak when properly bolted down...red silicone both sides(of the gasket) fully dryed should quench the leak...the v 6 has end bearings on the valve cover that stop leaking when slightly over tightened ....mine had the smoke tho.....

jebMy 96 dodge caravan has an oil leak I changed the rear maim seal and the oli pan and gasket and it still leaks
Your problem is possibly the oil pressure sending unit or switch depending on if you have a gauge or a light on what it is called. you do not have a 2 piece rear main seal so the trans had to be removed to replace the seal and if you use quality gaskets you dont need to use any silicone on the new gaskets but be sure to clean the sealing surface good the only spot where you would need to use silicone is where there is a joint . like where the timing cover meets the block
all answer,s are good.....just like to add....check your oil pressure sending unit.
It's possible you or whoever replaced the rear main seal put it on wrong. I'd say valve cover, but oil every 2 days sounds excessive. My only thought is a crack in the block maybe?
you may have installed the rear main incorrectly (Sorry) start it up and look under it if its leaking between the trans and engine you have to pull the tranny again and reinstall the seal again get it just inside the lip of the edge of the crankshaft then use a little silicone too.make sure it is completely clean and dry first also put some silglide on the inside of the seal too before installing so the scarf ring stays wear it should. in the seal (not out) other then that you got your front crank seal and your valve cover gaskets and you should be good.gl 2u make sure your trans side case seals are OK too ( where your axles go into your tranny)
The head gasket might be your problem.
its possible the rear main seal didn't seat down real good,i have also seen some crank shafts with a groove cut in them from the rear main seal and a new one sometimes wont seat back in,when their like this you have to add a shim in it before you install the rear main seal usually a 2 thousands shim will make the new seal seat in good, good luck hope this helps.
ohh, maybe in the crankcase, change the gasket

    84 toyota

uhhh all that to be done by a repair shop or dealership may end up costing you more than the van is worth

A 1984 toyota van and the front timming cover and seals are leaking oil, how can I fix or how much 2 have fix?
First and formost, is there oil on the ground where you park for longer then three hours? If not its a scam, if there is you would also see oil on the side of the engine with the hood open, you can however fix it yourself with some basic knowledge and a manual.
It's true, this may cost more than the van is worth. Oil leaking from the timing belt cover could cam seal or front main seal. Either way, it's basically a timing belt job. $600. Rear main seal means the transmission has to come off, another $400.
~$1000 probably. Tranny needs to come off for the rear main seal. You can fix it if you are willing to take the tranny out. Front seals are easier.

It could be those or the oil plug. You can't tell very well since oil goes all over. Have it cleaned first and after a day or two you'll be able to see better where it's coming from.

  • Is it expensive to fix an oil leak on the rear seals of a 95 Plymouth Voyager?

I'm contemplating on buying a '95 Grand Voyager. It has 166000 miles and according to the owner, the only thing wrong with it is an oil leak from the rear seals. I'm trying to find out if this would be worth the $900 that they want for the van, and if it's terribly expensive to fix a leak like that.Is it expensive to fix an oil leak on the rear seals of a 95 Plymouth Voyager?
If we are looking at axle seals that are where the wheels are you need to investigate a bit. It is likely brake fluid leaking. Get some on your finger or a rag and see if it's oil or brake fluid. If axle seals are leaking the usual problem is a failed bearing. That means pulling the wheels and brake assembly and axles. If it is the seal where the drive shaft is connected you have a larger problem. If it's brake fluid you can have it repaired with some wheel cylinder kits or calipers. Is it expensive to fix an oil leak on the rear seals of a 95 Plymouth Voyager?
If you have to but an old car that like, here is something to think about. If the repair costs 500 or more, and this one will, think about how much oil you can pour through this old girl for 500-600 bucks.Quite a bit.Don't fix it,just add oil when necessary, and as the old guys say...just drive the wheels off it.
The job will probably take atleast a day and a half to do. I'm not sure what a shop would charge for it though. I had done this to a chevy i owned awhile back and it didn't cost too much for parts, but the labor will be the problem. it's a long job.
You could spend $900 on the van, another $500 to replace the seal and still have the leak. It's not a good bet.
It depends where the leak is, but I wouldn't reccomend it, it may seem like a simple leak and not be at all, plus the older vehicles get the more likely they are to have problems. You need to find out exactly why its leaking, which means taking it to a mechanic you trust.
    It will cost $500-900 to fix it. I think I'd keep looking%26gt;
Expect to put atleast that much into it....if not more. That's a lot of miles for a '95. I'd keep lookin'....
Be ready to spend about $ 400-500.00 Transmission has to come out.

How long will olive oil stay good in a sealed bottle?

I have an old jar maybe five years old that has never been opened. It is sealed with a cork, and wax on the outside. Think its still good? How long will olive oil stay good in a sealed bottle?
Probably good. Open it, smell it, if all goes well, taste it. If it tastes funky, I wouldn't use it. If you have a cat, offer a bit to him or her. Cats will not eat anything that is spoiled. But they might not care for olive oil, either, so that's not a guarantee. Olive oil goes rancid very quickly once it's opened, but sealed, should be okay. After you open it, store it in the fridge to keep it from going rancid. It will get cloudy and partially solidify, but that's okay. Just let it come to room temperature before you use it, and shake well. It will keep indefinitely in the fridge. How long will olive oil stay good in a sealed bottle?
well yes bcoz oil stays real good 4 a long time and as far as its not opened and not has been mixed inside it
    olive oil doesnt spoil
those things usually stay good for awhile. they usually keep for two years if properly stored and unopened.
    It might be.

If it is a good extra virgin olive oil in a green bottle, it might be usable.

Don't expect the flavor to be anything special, and despite being sealed, it may have gone rancid. Good oils aren't heated or pasteurized, it kills the flavors.

Open it, sniff it, if it's cloudy or smells wonky, pitch it instantly.

    Best wishes!
yes oil doesnt go bad if never been opened
There should be a use by date somewhere on the bottle, I would go by that.

If the bottle is five years old, I would not use it, dispose of it.
Like all fats, olive oil is a delicate product. It becomes rancid very easily and needs to be stored carefully to preserve its flavor and health-giving properties.

Like many natural products, olive oil passes through a series of life stages. Newly pressed extra virgin olive oil is often not well balanced and can be aggressive and disorganized in aroma and flavor. It stabilizes about a month after production, acquiring harmony and its own special character. Month-old oil is at its peak, from then on it gradually loses aroma and intensity. After two years it is flat and tired and should be thrown away.
Yes..it is oil..It does not go bad..before you even bought it ..it probably sat for over 1 year
Yes it's good, if never opened before.

my oil is leaking and the people at the oil change place said it was the main seal..about how much with labor should it cost to fix?

also the car seems to not start as quick is that due to this problem or somthing diffrent.there is actually a diffrence when my tank is full, it starts better then when at 1/4 of a tank..could that be related too the same problem ? i have an appointment tomorrow, i just want to have an idea of the cost..etc.. thank youOil leak main seal 1999 plym. neon?
Put in new spark plugs and wires. That will probably fix the starting problem.

Before you do anything with a main seal, have the PCV system checked. A clogged/inoperative system will allow pressur to build in the engine and can lead to seal leakage.

The guy thats ';done a few'; probably has never ';done'; a neon, the transaxle has to come out, not an easy job, and is expensive.Oil leak main seal 1999 plym. neon?
only a guess but sounds like you need your tank cleaned or you fuel pump $100-$300 dollars.

don't know about the main seal.
concerning your oil seal, well the labor what will cost the most but if you want to save money then have a shade tree mech fix it for you.its not that hard,i done a few myself.as far as your starting problem ,the seal wont have anything to do with that.my guess is you need to drop the tank and clean it and put on a new gas filter.good luck.
the oil leak could be the head gasket or the cam position sensor on back of the head above the trans. dont run your gas tank that low on gas the fuel pump is working harder to pump fuel out when its at a1/4 tank
My daughter had the same problem with a 1996 Honda Civic with in the mid 100,000 miles range, and I just bought her a new Honda Accord. But, if I remember right, someone estimated an $800.00 repair cost to her car. Now, I can't guarantee the accuracy of my memory, but I'd also point out that other problems with your car may increase the repair costs. Truly, I don't have an exact figure for you, but, that's what I have to offer. I wish you the best. God Bless you.

they are trying to sell you a transmission service.

they want to change the fluid and filter in your transmission under

the lie that its going to fix your trans,

that is , if there was anything wrong to begin with which

    is doubtful.

the seal is your axle shaft seal , but is it leaking ? which side ?

change it only if you have seen transmission fluid on the driveway

    otherwise leave it be.

personally , i wouldnt go back to that shop again. they are just trying

to sell you a service you dont need.

sounds like a bunch of crooks.

by the way , the axle shaft seal should be under $15 and labor should be under $100

  • Different o-rings, gasket, and oil seals in an engine??...?

someone with a comprehensive knowledge as such, of the engine kindly help me out as i need to present a cut away section of an engine displaying the different sealing components.... and would be great if you could suggest me the type of machining operation generally practised to cut such a section.... wire cutting???Different o-rings, gasket, and oil seals in an engine??...?
The most accessible tool to do that job would probably be a plasma cutter, for the metal cutting. Good old tin snips for the gaskets and such. You will definitely need a grinder and a cut-off wheel for smoothing out the edges.Different o-rings, gasket, and oil seals in an engine??...?
it will be difficult to find a cut out of an engine, some auto parts stores have this type of display.

other than that, you might try to bring in a sample of items for your project. a piston and rings from a local junk yard, a gasket that seals the head to the block and items like that..

    good luck
End mills and fly cutting. Heat would distroy plastic intake manifolds and cause slag and a mess when cutting into a cylinder block or a cylinder head.

Many seeds I believe have naturally occurring omega 3/6 fatty acids, not 100% sure which ones do however :). And most vegan/vegetarian foods are supplemented with plant based omega 3s. And I hope they don't make fish oil out of clubbed seals, that's awful lol.
Instead of supplements, try eating direct sources of omega-3 e.g. falxseed oil, tofu, walnuts.
My soy milk and my soy margarine both contain Omega 3 %26amp; 6.
Try flax oil or DHA algae oil capsules.

I recently realized my oil cooler seals on my 924 S had failed. I THINK I caught the issue before too much damage was done鈥?the gauges looked fine when it was finally parked (not overheating and oil pressure was good, which makes me think the heads are undamaged). My question is, based on anyone's experience, if my heads may be damaged. A mechanic said that there is a 50/50 chance, and I'm concerned that I will go through this oil cooler repair only to find out I have to replace my heads as well.

    thanks.

If you never ran out of oil or overheated it, it would be like fixing something that may not be broke. I would say you have a 90/10 chance that you are just fine, fix it and drive it for a couple of weeks then have the mechanic take a review of the engine, that will tell you... you aren't going to damage anything by that isn't already damaged...

Where can i find the seals that go inside the oil filter adapter?

My car is a 65 chevy impala, and the seals are broken. No auto parts carry the seals . Where can i find them.Where can i find the seals that go inside the oil filter adapter?
Convert to a spin-on adapter.Where can i find the seals that go inside the oil filter adapter?
These used to come with a new filter kit. You might try NAPA as they have many old things that nobody else does. I'm sure these did in fact come with the new filter kit. If you try one of the restoration suppliers such a www.yearone.com they can point you in the right direction. There is also a few other places like NPD (national parts depot) that carry replacement parts for old impalas. Most people I know have all changed over to the spin on by installing a kit to do so. Sure beats the old way hands down. Glad to help you, good Luck!!!
when do find the time to do all this work?
Dealer item only. If it's an 0-ring you may be able to get it at the auto parts store or a hardware. If it is a cork or paper seal and you cannot get one, you can purchase gasket material and make it your self.

    Making your own gasket:

Put the gasket material over the metal objects that you're trying to duplicate. With a ballpeen hammer generally tap the gasket material in order to indent it. This should give you the pattern of the gasket that needs to be cut out. Gently cut the pattern out with scissors and a razor knife.

  • What is the estimated time to replace an oil pan gasket and the front crankshaft seal on a 2000 bmw 323ci???

i need to know the labor on this, please help me outWhat is the estimated time to replace an oil pan gasket and the front crankshaft seal on a 2000 bmw 323ci???
If it was me it would take 3-4 hours, considering I would have to raise the engine from the front frame.

I've been told one of my car cylinders is burning oil, through either valve stem seal or piston ring leaking

what exactly does this mean, and is it still safe to drive, how long will car last me before engine dies,

    what do these terms mean

    NSF wheel bearing

    OSF seized in caliper

what exactly is a wheel bearing kit

i had three fan belts replaced, i know of obviously the main one , but what are the other twoI've been told one of my car cylinders is burning oil, through either valve stem seal or piston ring leaking
Assuming you are in the U.K. NSF refers to the left front of the car,and consequently OSF is the right.

The wheel bearing kit is simply, all the parts you require to replace a wheel bearing.

    The smokyness issue.

Valve stem seal....Not a huge problem unless you let too much oil burn away!

Piston ring....A bit more serious but difficult to say how long it will last!

Both problems will cause excessive smoke from the exhaust and may therefor attract the attention of the Police re: emmissions.

The 3 belts are probably, Fan/power steering and Alternator. Is it safe? I would make sure you get the Caliper and bearing attended to soon one of these items is a brake part!

    Good luck

Hope this helps!I've been told one of my car cylinders is burning oil, through either valve stem seal or piston ring leaking
You know about the cylinders because you have a gray or blue cloud coming out of your exhaust. You are losing some of the power of the piston stroke because the rings are letting the gas slip around them. You can drive for another 5,000 miles.

Wheel bearings may or may not need to be lubricated so they spin freely. Worn bearings may squeak or squeal when rolling. Very bad to ignore them.

Seized caliper is a part of the brake that clamps down to slow the car. It is frozen and no longer doing its job.

We used to pull off the tire and pull out the bearings. Then knead grease thru the bearings. After a while the ';clean'; grease would start sliding out the other side. We were done. The kit will replace the bearings or show you how to grease them.

There are many belts under the hood. They all need to be replaced in 5-10 years. Most are replaced every time the car is sold and no sooner.
If the stem seals were faulty it would only smoke for a few minutes after standing overnight, when started. If one of the spark plugs is oiled up, this will pinpoint the culprit, confirm this with a compression test on all 4 cylinders and compare the results, follow this up with a cylinder leakage test, the valve clearances should be checked first, if not hydraulic.
If a valve seal or piston ring is worn, oil can come up from inside the engine and escape into the exhaust (not good).

    NSF - near side front

    OSF - off side front

Near side is nearest the kerb (left when you are driving), think of it that way. Off side is the other side (right when you are driving).

The wheel bearing is the bearing that makes the wheel turn without seizing up - simple as that. A wheel bearing kit is all the parts required to replace it, including seals.

The belts could well be for air conditioning and something else (maybe servo assisted steering) - depends on the car.
The car is safe to drive.

How long it will last is anyone's guess. It depends upon how many miles it has now and the general condition.

To determine which of the above it is, you'll need to go a mechanic. Generally, the mechanic will throw a little oil in the cylinder and check compression (see if it goes up or down).

The bottom line is, it's fine. Depending upon the answers above...I probably wouldn't put much $$ into it. I'd just ride it till it dies. That could be years.

As an illustration: One of my boys drives a used police car. One of the cylinders is completely dead (zero compression). It's been like that for 3 years. We always think it's just about to die; but we haven't had any downtime on it for 3 years. Naturally it's got huge V8 so you don't see the difference much.

One of the other fellow here has the right definitions to the other questions.

    Good Luck.
If your engine is burning oil, it simply means it is using it. By checking your oil level weekly and topping up if neccessary, your car will last you for as long as you want it.

NSF wheel bearing means the bearing in your passenger side front wheel.

OSF seized caliper means that the drivers side front brake caliper is stuck and needs to be sorted by a mechanic.

A wheel bearing kit is a kit that contains all the parts you require to replace a wheel bearing.

There are not three fan belts on your car. The belts I think you mean are

    1. Timing belt/Cam belt

    2. Alternator belt

    3. Fan belt
I'd fix the wheel bearing and the ???brake caliper?? and run the rest till it quits or you get cited for polution. Fan belts on older cars (74, - 78) were a mess. Envirnmental concerns put a belt powered air pump, an air conditioner compressor, water pump-alternator, and a power steering pump on seperate belts. Now with the serpenten belt, they do all that in one belt a 12 yr old can install. You just have to find that 12 year old to do the job.
    near side front [passenger side]

    offside front

    water pump belt

    power steering belt

dont thrash car and it could last 2 years.....it may only last 5 minutes.....scrap it

bearing kit ....you know that funny noise when you go round a corner ? .................blah blah
Year, make and model would get you more specific answers. ';...my car...'; doesn't tell us much.

NSF can be national science foundation, or non-sufficient funds. I don't know how it would b applied to a wheel bearing. OSF is a health care provider, and a hospital.
